Dr. Rajveer S. Purohit, M.D., MPH
Dr. Rajveer Purohit is a prominent, board certified urologist specializing in complex voiding problems such as incontinence and urinary obstruction, recurrent urethral strictures, minimally invasive urologic treatment for cancer, and sexual dysfunction. He is currently one of the tristate areas busiest reconstructive surgeons offering definitive repair of urethral strictures, and radiation induced urinary problems as well as complex urinary problems deemed untreatable by other urologists.
Currently, he holds an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Urology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and is an Assistant Attending in Urology at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, and a Consultant at the Hospital for Special Surgery.
Dr. Purohit graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude, from Williams College in Massachusetts and received his medical degree (MD) and masters in public health (MPH) degree from Columbia University in New York.
Following this, he completed his residency in general surgery and urology at the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF), one of the world's premier training programs in Urology and spent a year in fellowship training in reconstructive urology and complex voiding dysfunction with Dr. Blaivas and subsequently joined his practice.
After his residency he was on clinical faculty at SUNY- Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn where he was involved in training residents and proceeded to perform the first successful urethroplasty for urethral stricture disease, as well as the first laparoscopic nephrectomy, nephroureterectomy, adrenalectomy and pyeloplasty at the Brooklyn Hospital. After developing a expertise in these areas and refining his technique he has pursued his interest in developing newer, better techniques and has rapidly developed a thriving practice with New York City Urology.
He has authored multiple peer reviewed articles and book chapters on diverse topics as diverse as urethral strictures, prostate cancer, kidney stones and sexual dysfunction and has received awards for his cancer research at national and international scientific conferences. Dr. Purohit is the recipient of numerous other grants and awards, including the Pfizer Scholars in Urology Award, AUA/Praecis Gerald P. Murphy Scholar, and the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology traveling scholar award as well as the California Urologic Foundation grant for research on prostate cancer.
He is a member of American Urological Association and is board certified by the American Board of Urology. He currently lives in Manhattan with his wife, Mamta, and 3 small children.
